Short Rows for the Pop Blanket

If you are thinking of knitting the Pop Blanket and are not sure of short rows, here is a great tutorial from the Purl Bee on wrap-and-turns on the knit and purl side:

Another way to do short rows is the Yarn Over short row method.  Here is a great pictorial of Yarn Over short rows:

Which method are you using?  I decided on the good ole wrap and turn method.

POP Blanket KAL

We started the KAL on January 11th. We had some fun with the pin hole CO and short rows. I love the color combos everyone came up with. The Liberty Wool/Vintage combo was the most popular, a few used Classic Shades with Vintage. I decided to use Liberty wool with Vintage showcasing the new colors that will arrive in the upcoming months.
here is a tutorial on the pin hold cast on: http://blog.tincanknits.com/2012/05/25/pinhole-cast-on-tu...
if this CO is not your cuppa tea, someone suggested doing your favorite CO to CO the 6 sts, then using the i-cord method on the next round while dividing the sts evenly.
We will be meeting again next week on Friday at 2:00 to continue with more squares!

here are some of the combos knitter's have come up with:

Rita is using Liberty Wool in Cloudy Dawn for the centers and Vintage Wool in Chocolate for the outside.
I love how the colors still "pop" against the dark background

Shannon decided on Classic Shades for the middle in color Sapphires with Vintage in Smoke for the background.  This combo really has depth to it.  It's hard to see in the pic, but the Classic Shades knit up with a heathered look, which works really well with the light grey of the Vintage.

I decided to knit my POP with Liberty Wool's newest color Caribbean and Vintage Mochi.  Liberty wool has long color varrigations that work well for this pattern.  Some circles have just one color, while others have many, making it look as if I used multiple skeins.  I have 11 squares done with just one skein, and still have yarn to make more!  I will be using another of Liberty Wool newest colors, Faded Brocade, when this skein is done.  I'm excited to see how this will come together!

Two NEW Yarns from Manos del Uruguay!

Manos has come out with two new yarns, and I couldn't be more excited!

First up is Fino an elegant and refined blend of super soft merino and luxurious silk.  This lightweight yarn is perfect for heirloom accessories or luxurious garments, think Knitbots Featherweight!  Fino uses a new dyed process that produces complex subtle tonal colors.  I grabbed a skein the minute this was delivered and made two cowls, this was a dream to knit.  Seriously soft!  I get the goose bumps when wearing the cowl I made for myself, the Honey Cowl on Ravelry.  This sport weight yarn carries a whopping 490yds/100 gram skein.

Next is Alegria, which means "joy" in Spanish.  Alegria is an easy-to-care-for yarn is pretty amazing colors which are handpainted to create a color explosion in every skein.  This is the perfect choice for socks, baby garments or fingering weight accessories.   The fingering weight yarn carries 445 yds/100g skein in a washable merino/polyamide blend.  I'm sitting here staring at my skein dreaming of the possibilities, another soft yarn from Manos!  I'm off to search Ravelry for the perfect pattern for my Alegira!
